The season has started… .

It’s been a pretty dramatic start to the season, that’s for sure. A couple of weeks ago, we kicked-off facing Cargolux in a Cup knock-out game. Last year they won the 3rd division, so there was a good amount of […]

Pre-Season 2017/2018: Warming up… (FC Luxair 2-5 FC Euroatlas)

“The Blues” are back again! The pre-season 2017-2018 started and the players returned from a well-deserved holidays period. Like it happens every year, it’s a complicated period for the coach (Nuno), as the FC Euroatlas players are very well referenced […]

End of Season 2016/2017: We were almost there…

The last season was a very positive one for “The Blues”. The fans, a bit sceptic at the beginning due to the 6th place achieved on the previous season (2015/2016), started to become more and more enthusiastic along the year, […]

It’s that time of year.

It’s that time of year when the sound of cleats on the dressing-room tiles rings in your ears; when you feel the tightness of those shorts and wonder why they keep ordering them so small; when you smell the wet […]

Season 2014-2015 is at the corner… Be prepared!

The new season is almost there. The Blues will play the 2nd division this year… Last season was special because the club returned to the highest division. It’s true that FC Euroatlas was consider an outsider and no one was expecting more than to see the team fighting for the maintenance. Unfortunately, the team didn’t make it…

However, some fantastic results like the 8-3 victory against BGL Paribas will not be forgotten for sure. The team did some very good matches but the physical condition of Euroatlas players was too far away from the level presented by the opponents. And when that happens, the tactic and the technical skills that are quite know among the fans, end up by getting lost without causing too much damage to the other teams.

The team suffered a lot with injuries last season… Result of this lack of physical condition? Maybe… For some games, the coach faced some serious issues to be able to have 11available players! Even a top team will suffer with such a situation… Lots of changes, players playing out of their usual position, and so on… Lesson learned, we hope…

Next week FC Euroatlas starts the new season. New season, new life! The team is no long consider an outsider… FC Euroatlas has the obligation of fight for the promotion but not only… The supporters are claiming the title. On the training sessions the enthusiasm is evident, among the fans and among the players. No key players left the club, proving their loyalty and dedication to the Blues. Therefore, the expectations are high, very high… “We may have been relegated, but we were there in the 1st division.. As a consequence, the team has more experience, a better physical condition, the team spirit is stronger than ever! We are going to show that we don’t belong here! We are on our way to the top league again!”

Euro derby goes to FC Euroatlas!

FC EUROATLAS  2 – 1  FC EUROPA

Day for a derby at Gasperich! FC Euroatlas (playing as home team according to the calendar) faced the “red lantern” of the championship, FC Europa. However, this match was not expected be an easy one for several reasons…

For FC Euroatlas, it was an opportunity to consolidate their position in the middle of the table and to definitively run away from their rivals by increasing the points gap. Therefore, a victory was mandatory… However, a recent wave of injuries, that unfortunately made another victim during this match (Jussi), have been causing some troubles to the team and to Nuno, that had to set up the initial eleven without important players (like Juan and Johannes for instance)…

On the other side, there was a team fighting against  relegation, but not very far from the 7th and 6th place (just 2 points behind). If that could be already a good tonic for the match, their recent and surprising victory against AS Douanes (3rd in the table and fighting to be champions) put their moral even higher.

The first half started and, as expected, both teams were trying to reach the goal. FC Euroatlas with more ball possession, making more passes, not always with the desired accuracy and objective… And FC Europa trying a more direct style of game, with long passes for their strikers. None of the teams was creating real goal chances, but suddenly, the “lucky star” appeared for the home team… More or less in the middle of the first half, after a relief from FC Euroatlas defence,  FC Europa player insists and kicks the ball to the air (not a cross, but a kind of rugby kick). The ball was going to fall inside the area and Iulian seemed to have everything under control, because he was alone with no one to bother him. But unfortunately,  he made a mistake while jumping (by placing his hands wrongly probably) and he didn’t grab the ball. No one was expecting and since the striker was very close, precisely in front of the ball, he just had to touch with the head to score. Immediately, “No worries Iulian! It happens to the best! Come on! Allez!”  were the words the players and fans started to scream to give confidence to the FC Euroatlas goalkeeper. And, as we will see, those incentives motivated Iulian and he was able to redeemed himself in the end…

FC Euroatlas had a couple of changes to score, but the home keeper did a couple of good saves. The result remained like this until the half time, 1-0 for FC Europa. “Les Bleus”, playing in red this time, were quite nervous because the feeling was that the result was completely unfair… A draw would be the right result… We could hear some discussions between players , giving the idea to the opponents and also to the public that the team was lost… But they were completely wrong! After some words from Nuno (coach) and Juan (president), the team went to the second half with a spirit completely renewed….

The second half started and, reborn from the ashes, FC Euroatlas enters at full speed! Making a very high pressure, with Jussi and Rémi (forwards) backed by Eugénio (10’s role), running  and blocking all the passing lines, forcing FC Europa defenders to simply throw the ball away. The ones that went through, were promptly solved by Mattia and company at defensive midfield. And 10 minutes after, all this effort and attitude resulted in a nice goal. After a corner-kick that was rejected by the defence, “Les Bleus” insisted and after a quick combination on the left with Inigo, Eugénio made a perfect cross to Igor that levelled the game with a fantastic header. FC Euroatlas was still not happy with the 1-1 and kept the pressure and a positive attitude. The effort, the good organisation and concentration were rewarded 10 minutes after, with the entire FC Euroatlas team installed on the opponent’s midfield, after a couple of rebounds already inside the area, Johnny managed to dribble a couple of defenders and performed superb shot with the left foot to the top left corner. After, obviously, FC Europa tried to react and Iulian showed that the goal suffered during the first half was just an accident. With a couple of wonderful saves, he kept the net safe until the end. On counter attack, already with Nacho on the pitch, FC Euroatlas could have scored the third by Rémi but the shot went wide.

In the end, not an easy match at all, but a deserved victory and the correspondent 3 points, which gives a bit of fresh air to the rest of the season!
