FC Euroatlas – Amicale Européenne: 3-0
Fans or not of the Scorpions, FC Euroatlas supporters left the Merl stadium with the clear feeling that the “not so good period” the blues are currently facing is over. With a good performance FC Euroatlas won the derby against the Amicale Européenne and qualified for the ¼ finals of the coup. The opponent is already known and will be Amicale Post.
The blues started very well and scored within the first 5 minutes, with a good shot from Johnny from outside the area, making the game easier in a certain way. Since that moment the game was completely under control. Amicale Européenne was not able to attack and create changes, as all their attempts were blocked by FC Euroatlas midfield and defence. We must say that, during this match, it was clearly visible a good understanding between these two sector team, constantly circulating the ball without trying to pass it immediately to the strikers. This way, the blues were forcing the opponent to run after the ball while waiting for the right moment to put the ball in Nuno’s or Artur’s area of action. This good combination of movements allowed some nice (and non-expected) incursions of Eugénio (normally the last Euroatlas man in the defence) in the midfield, creating a sudden superiority on the attack. In one of those moments Eugénio managed to dribble a couple of opponents and with a good pass left Artur alone with only the keeper to beat, but unfortunately the shot went wide… The half-time came and 1-0 was the result.
The second half started and, knowing that 1-0 was a dangerous result, FC Euroatlas continued to push their opponent searching for the second goal that would give some serenity. I didn’t take much time… Artur with a good header, corresponding to a corner taken by Juan, made the second. By this time, Iulian was trying not to fall asleep and keep his hands and feet warm somehow… But he finally had a change to “participate in the game”, as Amicale Européenne got a free kick. A strong shot but it went straight to Iulian safe hands, that didn’t allow a rebound… The third goal came naturally, with Juan again on the play. After several consecutive attacks and corners the ball reaches Juan, who crosses once again into the area. No one was able to finalise with a header, but the ball hits the second post and goes in.
Let’s hope this wind continues to blow a bit longer and the blues manage to reach the same performance in the league!
